My Philosophy:
Mary Hollingsworth put it best when she wrote in On Raising Children:
"Without Children what a boring and depressing world this would be without children! Just think, there would be no need for lollipops, cotton candy or licorice. Ponies would be out of work. Amusement parks with carousels would be obsolete. Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny would have to retire. And nobody would care when a baby robin fell out of its nest. Infectious giggles would never be heard, and "peek-a-boo" would disappear from the English language. If there were no children, who would make grandparents smile, who would play pat-a-cake, and who would try to whistle with crackers in his mouth? Balloons would never pop, milk would rarely spill, and sticky hands from chocolate bars would be a thing of the past. Without children there would be no use for toy trains, dolls that walk and talk, or Jack-in-the-Box. Barney the Purple Dinosaur would have no one to hug, and Kermit the Frog would just turn green and die. Caterpillars wouldn't get stroked, and turtles would never get
to sleep in the house. All in all, life would be a real drag. Let's face it, children are the essence of life. They are joy and love personified."

Curriculum Information :
Each day the children will have fun participating in short educational activities in phonics, early handwriting, math, science or social studies, art and music.
Plus, there will be plenty of time for taking turns and sharing during circle time. During transitions, different skills such as gross motor, fine motor, and listening are emphasized. Each day ends with some quiet time spent listening to a story. It sounds like a lot, but the activities are short to keep the children interested, and many of the activities are cooperative activities or games the children will play together.
A Note on Play:
I believe play is an essential part of a child's development. While the children do participate in a certain amount of playing during the program, I feel children require a certain amount of free playtime. This is why the preschool program is only part day. It allows children to participate in free play during the hours they are not in the program.
Openings for Preschool Program:
Openings, for any child age 2 - 4 years old*, are currently available in the Preschool Program (8:30AM-1:00PM) which includes a USDA approved breakfast and a lunch, both served with milk. If your child is in the Extended Afternoon Care Program, from 1PM - 3:30PM, he or she will also receive a USDA approved afternoon snack and 100% Fruit Juice. The Preschool Program runs from September through June with Summer Sessions during the months of July & August.
*Children must turn three but be no older than four by September 30th to be accepted into both the daycare and preschool program due to activities during the week. Some activities may include but won't be limited to Library Read-Alongs, the Parks & Recreation Center Preschool Gym Classes, field trips to the Young Chefs Academy, etc. Age limits are set by those programs and will be followed by mine to insure the children's access to fun & educational activities.
